Solid Foundational Courses

Psychology is a diverse and expansive field. Building a solid foundation during the undergraduate stage and gaining a deep understanding of fundamental areas are critical for the future application of psychological knowledge in alignment with personal interests. Our department boasts the largest faculty specializing in fundamental psychology among private universities, offering a comprehensive range of foundational courses. This ensures that every student acquires a thorough grounding in essential knowledge, laying a strong foundation for their future studies and development.

Application and Research Fundamentals

Modern psychology emphasizes the scientific method, where any theoretical development requires research validation to avoid potential cognitive biases. To this end, our department has designed courses in Psychological and Educational Statistics, Experimental Psychology, and Psychological Testing during the first and second years of study. These courses help students establish a strong research foundation early on. Regardless of the field they enter in the future, students will be equipped with a scientific mindset and an understanding of how to critically examine evidence and test hypotheses.

Interdisciplinary Learning

After acquiring the basic knowledge, students can select advanced courses based on their individual interests. Our department offers corresponding advanced courses in various fields of psychology, and some graduate-level courses are also open to undergraduates. Additionally, the university offers various credit-based and microcredit programs for those who wish to combine psychology with other disciplines. Students can follow the program’s curriculum and receive certification upon completion. Our department also collaborates with the Department of Medical Sociology and Social Work to offer several sociology-related courses, promoting interdisciplinary learning.

Career Exploration

Determining a future career path cannot always be achieved solely through coursework; it often requires real-world exposure and experimentation to discover one's interests. Our department hosts multiple career seminars each semester, inviting alumni to share their work experiences. We also offer career and life planning courses to assist students in exploring potential career directions. In their senior year, students are required to participate in mandatory Psychology Practice and Internship courses. The department partners with hospitals, insurance companies, school counseling offices, and nonprofit organizations to provide internship opportunities, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in real-world settings.

Additionally, our department offers a short-term exchange program with psychology departments in Japan, allowing students to study abroad for one month. This program allows students to engage in psychological research and learn about different cultures in different countries. Through such international exchanges, students can broaden their global perspective and understand the application and development of psychology across diverse cultural contexts.

For students interested in research, many of our faculty members welcome undergraduates to join their labs. Students can participate in undergraduate research projects or senior theses, further exploring their passion for academic research.
